Obesity prevention for socially disadvantaged children and adolescents This project is part of the Prevention Research Programme operated by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It strives for better obesity prevention for socially disadvantaged boys and girls in the age from 12-16 years.
The project consists of
i) an explorative research phase ii) the development of prevention measures iii) the transfer of the project results to practice. AOK Niedersachsen (a health insurance) is the main cooperation partner of the project. Transfer to practise will be also supported by AOK Baden-Württemberg, the German Nutrition Society, the Ministry for Rural Regions and Nutrition of the German State of Baden-Württemberg, and the Ministry of the Environment and Conservation, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The project is conducted in cooperation of the Institute for Sociology of the University of Hannover (project leader) and the KATALYSE Institute for Applied Environmental Research and ZIRN.
As a part of the explorative research phase ZIRN conducted a CIB analysis of the social, psychological and pysiological causes of obesity. An expert panel worked out a qualitative model of the development of obesity in socially disadvantaged boys and girls. CIB was used to analyse the model and to discuss several measures against obesity risks. The results of the CIB analysis are published in: ⇒ Weimer-Jehle W., Deuschle J., Rehaag R. (2012): Familial and societal causes of juvenile obesity — a qualitative model on obesity development and prevention in socially disadvantaged children and adolescents. Journal of Public Health. Project duration: 2009 - 2012 Project staff ZIRN: Juergen Deuschle M.A. Dr. Wolfgang Weimer-Jehle >> Project homepage (in German) |
